Lost vision after a freak accident

Patients · February 12, 2019

Ali Rahman, 38 years old lives in a remote area of Charsadda. He is the sole bread earner for his aging parents, wife and four children and earns his livelihood by selling pakoras, rolls and chola chaat from his food stall located on Mardan road. Despite his meager income of Rs. 13,000 with which he pays rent, he also sends his children to a government school and dreams of them going to college one day.

Life was good and Ali despite his financial condition was content, till one day due to a freak accident he lost vision in one eye. As per routine he was setting up his cart and there was some woodwork going on in the shop behind him. All of a sudden a stray nail flew and hit him in his left eye, he felt excruciating pain and felt a trickle of blood come out, the carpenter who had been working in the shop immediately rushed to Ali’s aid and took him to the nearest hospital. The emergency staff applied an ice pack and advised him to get his eyes checked by an Ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

Ali got worried and questioned whether it was anything serious because he could not afford to miss work or pay for treatment. The doctor told him to go to LRBT Akora Khattak Hospital should the need arise because treatment at LRBT is absolutely free.

Initially Ali’s eye appeared to be getting better but in subsequent days he felt his vision getting blurry to the point that he was unable to see from his left eye, he did not want to miss work so he delayed going for a checkup. Eventually seeing his condition worsen, his friend forcefully took him to LRBT where he was diagnosed with traumatic cataract and operated upon.

Ali had a successful surgery and is now back at his food stall. He could not thank God enough for his second chance and his quick recovery thanks to excellent care he received at LRBT.
